1. Boogie Dr. (Holiday &
Wyatt)
Styled after Pete Johnson. This
song was written years ago.
My friend, Bobby Holiday helped
me with some of the lyrics.
2. After Hours (Avery Parrish) (Rachel & Popular)
Always a favorite. Avery Parrish
has composed a masterful blues song. As a child, I use to listen to WLAC
radio late night. D.J., Gene Nobles used “After Hours” as his theme song
on “The Randy’s Records Show.”
3. Boogie Woogie Cocktail (Ken Kersey)
Ever since I heard this song
on Billy Taylor’s Show, “Jazz America’s Classical Music,” I wanted to play
it. Ken Kersey was a Canadian who was also a great trumpet man that composed
this piece and recorded it with Andy Kirk’s big band in the forties.
4. Big Joe (Thomas A. Dooley)
Written for Big Joe Duskin by
Thomas A. Dooley, an excellent pianist & friend from Cincinatti, OH.
Big Joe has been living and performing in and around Cinci for years. He
is known world wide as a boogie pianist and member of the Boogie Woogie
Hall of Fame. Big Joe is loved by all. He’s a wonderful guy and friend.
We love you Big Joe. Hope you
like this one.
5. Bumble Boogie 2002 (Jack Fina)
6. New Thunderbird (Rudy Wyatt)
I’ve always wanted a Thunderbird
since the sport version of the fifties.
When I saw the preview of the
new one, I wrote this song.
7. Kitten On The Keys (Zez Confrey)
My favorite arrangement by Freddie
Slack. I am proud to have picked this one out. It’s a joy to play!
8. The Last Meal (Denny Hall)
9. Guitar Daze (Rudy Wyatt)
Early guitar influences helped
me to compose this one. This song brings back a lot of fond memories.
10.Boogie Woogie Stomp (Albert Ammons)
My dad used to play a rendition
of this one. He played more of a Pine Top Smith’s version.
I really feel this song was
embellished and plagiarized by everyone of the era.
My version is based more on
the Albert Ammons interpretation.
11. In “D” Groove (Rudy Wyatt)
A good mood. Makes me
feel like going for a ride!
12. Chicago Breakdown (Big Maceo Merriweather)
An old family favorite! Dad
said if I could play this one, I would be a piano player.
Goes out to Speedo, D.R. &
String Bean (Donald Rudolph Wyatt).
13. Dive Bomber (K. Holden)
Pete Johnson, Albert Ammons
& Meade Lux Lewis were the great boogie pianists that created the style.
I thought it only appropriate
to include a Pete Johnson piece.
14. Georgia On My Mind (J Gorrell & H. Carmichael)
15.Keep on Gwine (Mel Lastie)
A song from New Orleans. James
Booker recorded this and brought this song to popularity.
I’ve always loved the melody
and rhythm. Some of my friends from New Orleans always said that James
Booker was the most outstanding pianist in the city.
Dr. John, Longhair, Huey Piano
Smith, Fats Domino, Jelly Roll and the list goes on. I love them all.
16. L.B.’s Boogie (Rudy Wyatt)
A song that was taught
to me by my dear friend Mr. L.B. (Elijah) Oliver. L.B. could play
any instrument.
He had a smile larger than life.
L.B. could light the place up in a minute,
Lock all the doors and throw
away the key! May God bless you L.B. Oliver.
17. On The Spot (Rudy Wyatt)
18. HonkyTonkTrain (Meade Lux Lewis)
Wow, choo choo train down
the tracks! I love it.
